Meet our Coaches

Paul Carbonaro
DIRECTOR OF COACHING
I have a national B level coaching qualification and have been
a head and assistant coach for youth teams through the high school level. I am also the head varsity coach for the Fairmont high school girls team.
The #1 thing we all want for every player and every team in our club is improvement in soccer skills because with improvement comes individual and general happiness and greater chances of on-field success—which generates even more happiness.

Kyle Duwel
GIRLS U13 ASSISTANT, DIRECTOR OF ACADEMY
I have coached at different age levels for Oakwood United for
the past 7 years. I also coached the Oakwood High School team for 18 years, including 5 as the Varsity head coach. I hold an F license with US Soccer and have taken additional Grassroots classes.
All the kids I work with make me want to be a better coach so that they can themselves become better.

Josh Gall
BOYS U14 ASSISTANT COACH
I have been coaching for over 20 years, licensed referee for almost 30 years, and playing competitive soccer for nearly
35 years, including: youth select, high school, collegiate and men’s open.
This game is everything. The way it teaches about hard work, individuals and teamwork translates to so many things in life. There is nothing like playing, coaching or refereeing a high-level, well played game. Helping kids achieve a knowledge, love, and applied understanding of the game is one of my greatest joys.

Amy Hippenmeyer
BOYS U11 GOLD COACH
I have been coaching for 6 years with Oakwood United at various ages. I have been playing soccer for 30 years including at the high school and collegiate level and continue to play indoor coed today.
I love that this sport teaches you more than just how to play the game. You learn how to be a good teammate, how to deal with adversity, how to lose and how to stay humble when you win. Coaching youth athletes allows me to share my love of the game with them. Watching a player develop season after season, growing in skill and confidence is the most rewarding.

Todd Goeller
SENIOR STAFF COACH
BOYS AND GIRLS U11 TRAINER
I have coached Oakwood United teams for 16 years and at the high school level for 3.
My favorite part of coaching is player development. To see a player grow in their skills, understanding, and most importantly the love of the game is the best reward for me as a coach.

John Mersfelder
GIRLS U12 COACH, BOYS U10 COACH
DIRECTOR OF FIRST TOUCH
I have coached at different age levels since 2005 and am currently on the Oakwood United board. I have also coached womens soccer for Oakwood HS. I hold an F license with US soccer and have taken additional grassroots soccer courses.
For each team that I currently coach or have coached my biggest thrill is to watch those players go on to have very successful high school careers and beyond.

Jeremy Storost
BOYS U13 COACH
I have been coaching soccer for over 20 years, 15 years at the high school level with 11 years as the Oakwood HS boys varsity head coach. I have been coaching for Oakwood United for the past 5 years.
I really enjoy the interaction with the players and sharing my
love of the game with them. I also love watching their soccer skill, soccer IQ, and game awareness improve throughout
each season.

Sarah Williamson
GIRLS U10 COACH
I have a Grassroots license and am working towards a D license.
I have loved and played soccer my entire life! I started playing club at a young age, was a four-year varsity high school player and played at the collegiate level. I understand the game as a player and now as a coach. I started getting involved with Oakwood United in 2016 with the First Touch and Youth Academy Programs.
I enjoy the interaction amongst players, parents, and fellow Oakwood United teams. There is a bond between all who are part of Oakwood United and that kind of support is one of a kind.

Joe Jerele
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF COACHING
I am a former collegiate national champion and professional soccer player. Throughout my playing experiences in North America, Europe, and Brazil, I observed numerous coaching insights that I apply to leading Select and Olympic Development teams. I also have experience working in Major League Soccer and managing the US tour for Manchester United, Chelsea, and other top clubs.
I have enjoyed many years working throughout the Oakwood United club (Select, Youth Academy, and First Touch). It is amazing to see the sense of accomplishment from young players, who may come into a season without a full sense of their capabilities. It is very rewarding to motivate them to exceed their goals.

Brian Cox
BOYS U8 ASSISTANT COACH
I am a lifetime soccer player and fan. I have coached 5+ seasons of youth soccer for both outdoor and futsal. My main goal when working with youth is that when the season ends, they can't wait for the next one to begin.

Brian Hinkle
BOYS U10 COACH
I've coached First Touch and Youth Academy with Oakwood United. I've played for over 30 years and at the collegiate level.
I had the great opportunity to work in MLS and minor league soccer and work with coaches who have won MLS Cup and coached the US Men's National team.
Oakwood United is a club that wants to set the bar, continue to improve and grow, not with flashiness, but with the goal to grow and improve the teams and the individuals.

Ben Kahut
GIRLS U12 ASSISTANT COACH
YOUTH ACADEMY AND COMPETITION TEAM
I have US Soccer Grassroots 7v7 and 9v9 Certifications. Oakwood United’s program is unique. I appreciate how the club has a unified philosophy across all teams. The club tries to satisfy the basic needs of each individual player while also trying to progress and win!

Steve McManamon
GIRLS U9 COACH, FIRST TOUCH COACH
I played soccer through high school and ran cross country at
the collegiate level. As a coach I've spent three seasons with Oakwood United's recreational soccer program and now
coach competitive.

Maggie Pasqualone
GIRLS U9 ASSISTANT COACH
Oakwood United Youth Academy Coach and Assistant Coach for three years—club, high school, and college club team member.
To be successful, you have to have shared knowledge, abilities, motivations, and passions as a team while appreciating and honing individual gifts. Soccer is so much more than kicking a ball in a net. You build relationships with your teammates and coaches that translate into skill on the field, and build character in everyday life at the same time.

Tom J Whalen
GIRLS U9 COACH
I am a U.S. Soccer Licensed Grassroots Coach and recently joined the Oakwood United Coaching Staff after several years of coaching First Touch and Youth Academy Teams.
I played on one of the first Oakwood United Teams in 1994 and have enjoyed watching the Club grow and flourish.
The skills learned in soccer translate into useful tools athletes can leverage in their other athletic endeavors, particularly team sports. It is my honor to help develop young athletes into team-oriented, composed, and confident young adults.
